What’s Causing Obesity I Can’t Believe It’s not Butter, a new article by Laura Schoenfeld, a public health nutritionist on the state of affairs in nutritional science and policy making, is well worth reading.
The problem in one word, is complacency. Laura talks about mainstream nutritionists perpetuating the status quo, even in light of new evidence that whole dairy fat is actually healthy and the lack of any evidence that saturated fat and dietary cholesterol cause obesity, diabetes or cardiovascular disease. Laura’s goal is to eradicate these and other misconceptions and help establish a path forward in nutrition that is truly science-based.
I just purchase Dr. Robillard’s book, “Heartburn Cured-the low carb miracle” and have only read a few pages; but I want to say that the reason I purchased it is that both my husband and I are acid reflux sufferers-my husband has been to the hospital twice with severe chest pains only to learn (Thank God) that it’s not his heart, it’s “heartburn”-acid. While I have occasional heartburn, my discomfort is more in the form of frequent reflux and esophageal discomfort, including difficulty swallowing, mild nausea, etc. I also have a small hiatal hernia. We are both on PPI drugs “permanently”.
About ten years ago, my husband read the Atkins Diet, and decided to try it-after eating bacon and eggs for breakfast every morning, cheese for snacks, and cutting out most carbs, he lost 20 lbs. and lowered his cholesterol to normal-when it had been diagnosed as high before the went on the diet. Eventually he went off the diet-it’s almost impossible to eat virtually no carbs for the rest of your life. If Dr. Robillard’s diet includes some whole grain carbs, and fruit, I will do it, and so will my hubby!
I am hopeful that we will lose weight-and GERD!!!
If you have a mailing list, I’d like to be on it.
Hi Margaret,
You might consider Fast Tract Digestion (go to the “buy books” tab) as this diet allows a wider variety of carbs based on their fermentation potential (FP). The FP approach which only limit’s difficult-to-digest carbs. There are other posts about the book on this site.
