    I forgot to say what helps me the most with constipation. It is just plain water. I’m sure I just don’t drink enough water most days, but if I have a problem, I go drink a large glass and find that it helps in less than an hour. It might not work in every case, but it’s certainly worth a try.

    You would think that I might have written that down somewhere in case I needed that information again, but sadly, I did not. What I do know is that I bought it at Walgreen. I am a bit inclined to think it might have been a Walgreen brand, but I can’t be positive. In any event, this is a relatively new market, and I find that the selection of probiotics is changing all the time, so it might be the case that even if I could remember it, it would no longer be available.

    I have found that psyllium is helpful for diarrhea but not for constipation. The odd thing is that it is normally recommended for constipation, but it doesn’t work for me at all for constipation. I’m wondering, though, if psyllium is a good thing to be taking for diarrhea that is related to IBS or SIBO.

    I am looking forward to your post on this. I don’t really know what is wrong with me. I’ve discussed it briefly with my doctor but have never really pursued it because I have other health problems that take up most of my time in appointments. My doctor is conventionally trained, so I’m not sure I really want to get too involved with those solutions. I seem to be able to control my problems with disciplined diet.

    I don’t know what I will do about the RUMPS. I’m not even thinking about resuming that at the moment. Too scary.

    I posted more about my experience in the challenges thread. I started with just 1 TBS per day and worked up to 4 TBS per day fairly quickly. I tried for 2 weeks, but I had diarrhea pretty much the whole time and had to quit. No, I did not lose any weight, which was sort of surprising. I was not replacing sweets with something else, other than potato starch. It was nice to have control over my sweet tooth, but I couldn’t take the diarrhea which was getting worse.

    I posted on another thread the difficult time I had with potato starch. However, I did want to make one comment on this thread. While I was consuming potato starch, I seemed to have very little appetite for sweets. For me that is a huge benefit, and I would like to be able to get to the point that I could consume some potato starch for that reason alone.

    About 3 weeks ago I decided to try the potato starch that seems to be very popular right now with many diet bloggers. I started off with 1 TBS per day and worked up to 4 TBS each day. Diarrhea quickly developed, and the more potato starch I consumed, the worse it seemed to get.

    I had my last potato starch a week ago, so I was on it for two weeks. I really could not understand why potato starch was causing such a problem. Nobody had mentioned it. (I was taking the unmodified raw potato starch, Bob’s Red Mill, if it matters.) So I did some research trying to understand what had gone wrong, and that led me to this site.

    Last week-end I was pretty leery of eating anything at all. I finally had some scrambled eggs with a little sour cream Saturday night. I’ve been avoiding almost all carbohydrates this past week except for sauerkraut yesterday and today. Today was the first day that I have had a solid stool in almost 3 weeks.

    I don’t know if I have SIBO or not. I have a history of difficult bouts with diarrhea, but have not had an episode quite this bad in years.

    Anyway, I thought I would add this to the conversation as another data point on potato starch. I do wonder if I could get to the point that I could try potato starch again? How would I go about that?
