Hi All, Even though I am just starting out on Norm’s dietary recommendations, I thought if anyone else is too they may benefit from something my physician is recommending to me. I have been on PPIs for about 2 years now, and she thinks it is likely that SIBO is an issue. She suggested also taking oil of clove capsules. She said they are just effective at killing of the ‘bad bacteria’ as very expensive antibiotics, and can be used simultaneously with probiotics to reestablish normal gut flora. Thoughts Norm?

SORRY – it was oil of OREGANO, not oil of cloves…

I’ve also wondered what Norm would say about herbal antibiotics. Another book I have says to take them separately from probiotics, so apparently they can kill both good and bad bacteria. Maybe it depends on the herb, just as different drugs can be broad-spectrum or target specific types of bacteria. I also wonder if they breed superbugs.

I took oregano oil two different times, before I found FTD. The first time it helped a lot. Then I ate sugar for a special occasion, not knowing at the time there would be long-term effects. To deal with the renewed symptoms, I took oregano again, and it didn’t have the same effect. A probiotic supplement is one of the things I think helped, so I wonder if the second round of oregano was too much for my good bacteria.
